Estate Planning
Estate planning includes all the steps involved in ensuring that a client’s assets will be transferred to their intended beneficiaries easily and efficiently as possible after their passing. This may also involve establishing power of attorney or health care directives. There is a great deal of flexibility in distributing property, which is especially useful if there are difficult issues that affect your beneficiaries and your future wishes for them. In some cases, trusts help limit the estate taxes for individuals with substantial assets. For many people a trust is an essential component to avoiding probate in cases of personal property above $150,000 and real estate above $20,000. Probate
Many circumstances require probate and having an attorney help explain and provide counsel about whether or not the process is necessary will be invaluable. Some cases that require probate include an individual passing away without a trust, but have a will or without a trust or will. The situations that require probate are complex and varied. Having an attorney provides a great deal of peace of mind to beneficiaries and help in navigating the difficult process of probate. Harrison TSI helps with the process by going to court to act on behalf of family members or other beneficiaries, files necessary petition and other paperwork on behalf of clients, and to ensure the transfer of assets. Harrison TSI is able to set up entities (corporations, LLC, partnerships) and assist in business transactions for corporations (selling and buying businesses, among other necessary actions). I have an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and have a wide range of technical knowledge and real life experience that has been honed during my 35 years of working as a financial analyst, risk manager, and business manager. I have actively managed and helped businesses improve profitability by establishing budgets, making strategic decisions, managing the hiring and firing of employees, initiating capital improvements, and building up adequate operating reserves.
Real Estate
During my over 15 years as corporate counsel for a commercial real estate company, I developed experience in selling commercial properties. Since then, I have gained substantial experience in selling commercial properties and private homes for various clients. This may involve settling title issues in ordering the many documents involved in appraisals and inspections. I also draft leases, purchase agreements, and other documents for clients. My real estate experience may also be useful to those who are looking to create a trust that includes real estate that may be sold and the profits distributed to various beneficiaries.
Trustee
Harrison TSI stands for Trustee Services and Investments and forms the core of what I do as an attorney. I act as a professional trustee for various clients that require a third party to serve as the fiduciary of the trust. I act in that capacity when there are either complex circumstances or a family member or friend is not able to serve in that role. For over 30 years, I have utilized my legal and business experiences to tackle challenges that invariably occur when managing trust assets, and to identify legal issues and protect against potential liabilities associated with trustee work. Having a trustee can also act as an alternative to a expensive, court-supervised conservatorship. I also have a particularly useful combination of both business experience and technical legal experience to my work as a trustee, something many of my clients find useful during the course of our professional relationship.
